Aggie Football
Just in case you didn't hear the news - The Aggie Football team beat up on the #1 team in the country, Alabama, last Saturday.
What an incredible game! Last summer when the Aggies moved to the SEC, everyone made a joke out of it. Saying we would be the whipping posts of the SEC. yeah, not so much. I will admit, I thought this year was going to be more of a building year for us - new conference, new coaches, I did not expect us to be #8 in the country, beat the #1 team in the country (at their house) and have a freshman Heisman candidate. I knew it would come, but I didn't know it would be so soon. But, boy has this year been fun! I am very excited about the coming years in Aggie Football! Hang on, its going to be a great ride!

JOHNNY MANZIEL WINS HEISMAN WITH PERFORMANCE OF YEAR

Tonight Johnny Manziel won the Heisman trophy.
Period.
If you vote for anyone else, you're blind, deaf, and stupid.
Or a Bama fan.
Manziel's performance on the road tonight was the best big game performance by any player all season. The fact that a redshirt freshman sliced and diced a Nick Saban defense for 345 total yards passing and rushing is downright incomprehensible.
It's amazing.
It's the perfect capstone to the game of the year.
I didn't think it was possible there'd be a better game than Bama-LSU all season. Then it happened seven days later.
I'm still in awe.
The fact that Manziel, a redshirt freshman, just led his team to a road win over the number one team in the country in their first season in the SEC is the feverish dream of the most red Aggie on earth.
That. Just. Happened.
And now that it's happened, Manziel has to be the Heisman favorite.
He's now passed for over 2780 yards and rushed for 1014 more.
That's 3794 total yards with two games remaining.
Putting those numbers into context, Tebow put up 3970 total offensive yards when he won the Heisman trophy as a sophomore. It was a season's performance I thought I'd never see the equal of and Manziel has already rushed for more yards than Tebow did in that year. He's going to throw for more yards as well. And Manziel's win on the road at Alabama dwarfs any win that Tebow had as a sophomore, when his Gators went 9-3 in the regular season.
Manziel has also thrown for many more yards than Cam Newton did in his Heisman season and he'll likely pass him in total yards as well. In 2010 Cam Newton put up 4327 total offensive yards. I believed we'd never see another season its equal for the rest of our lives.
Now Manziel is likely to eclipse Cam Newton's total yards as well.
This means that Manziel is likely to put up more total yards than either Tim Tebow or Cam Newton did in their Heisman trophy seasons. Which means Manziel is on pace to have the greatest single season of any quarterback in SEC history.
Think about this for a moment.
It's a truly amazing story.
Before this game I wrote that if Manziel found a way to go on the road at Bryant-Denny Stadium and win, something only Cam Newton and Auburn and last year's LSU team have managed to do in the past four seasons, he'd deserve the Heisman trophy.
Now there's no doubt.
He deserves the Heisman trophy. Not just for what he did at Bryant-Denny, but for what he's done all season and just accomplished at Alabama. It was a performance for the ages, a win that will reverberate through the Aggie ages until eventually there are 300,000 A&M fans who claim to have been in Tuscaloosa on this day.
But that's for future contemplation.
The more immediate question is this, will Manziel break out the Scooby Doo costume in College Station tonight? And if he does, where will his night rank in the annals of SEC quarterback celebration nights? (Please send pictures for the rest of us, the mere mortals). Further question, how many months of your life -- assuming you live to be 80 or more -- would you give up to be Johnny Manziel this week in College Station? I mean, if you live to be 90, this week alone has to be worth six months, right? I can't imagine that eighty-nine and six months to ninety is an extraordinary time.
In the meantime, the holy trinity of A&M athletics in this 2012 season, Kevin Sumlin, Manziel, and the SEC, has taken the college football universe by storm. Remember all those who said that A&M couldn't compete in the SEC? Not since Columbus proved the earth wasn't flat has a theory been more soundly defeated in the space of a fall. This isn't the kind of win that fades, this is the kind of win that continues to grow each year, a line of SEC demarcation, a time line forever dividing what was and what will be.
This was the day that Scooby Football become a bona fide national star and A&M served notice it's going to become a legit national power.
Somewhere back in Texas, Longhorn fans are nervous as hell. They'll pretend that they aren't, try to downgrade this win and claim it's no big deal, but secretly they know that everything changed tonight. That their puny narrative about A&M not being a good fit for the SEC gave up the ghost tonight. The Longhorns can hear that train a comin' and they're standing in a dark tunnel with nowhere to go. How big was this win for A&M? A desperate Texas might even fire Mack Brown because of it.
Tonight the Aggies served notice that they're here to stay in the SEC.
And they made Bama fans cry.
Which means the rest of us SEC fans love you too.

Our daughters
The idea of having 2 teenage daughters terrifies me. From self-esteem issues to boy problems - I am already trying to prepare myself for those challenging years. Having gone through them myself, I know what they are in store for....except our world is a bit different these days. Satan attacks young women from all angles - in print (what 'beautiful' looks like) on tv (how girls are protrayed acting) and especially on the internet. We, as parents, have our work cut out for us.
What I do know is that right now is when we have to be laying the groundwork for their foundation. I want them to be strong, independent, not afraid to stand up for their beliefs, to support the weak and to show love to others the way God loves us. I believe the foundation they need later in life comes from a great belief and understanding of God's love for us - what He has done for us and why. I came across this blog post this morning and feel it represents exactly what I want my daughters to know. She said it better than I could, so please read along:

I’m becoming increasingly aware of the responsibility I have to teach my girls well, to make sure they are equipped to handle life gracefully. So I’ve been thinking of the life lessons I want to make sure I’m reinforcing. This is my list so far.
1. You are loved, deeply loved. Loved by God, our family, and many in our community. And you are loved simply because you are you.
2. God is so good and his very essence is Love. If anyone tries to present God as anything different than this, guard your heart, sweet girls.
3. Loving others will bring richness to your life. Learn to love well, even when loving is difficult.
4. Learn to be grateful for both little and big blessings. It can be hard to muster up thankfulness at times, but well worth it. You’ll find true joy in this learned contentment.
5. Making the right decisions isn’t always easy or popular, but living with integrity is priceless and worth far more than being popular or well-liked.
6. Look out for the “little guy”- those on the edges of society. They are often forgotten and could use a hand or hug- anything but a head turned away or judgement.
7. Relationships are important. They make life sweeter. Make time for relationships. You’ll never regret strong, healthy relationships.
8. You are beautiful. Stunning. But your truest beauty comes from the inside, radiating outward, not from the color of your hair, waistline, or skin tone.
9. It may seem counter-intuitive, but giving generously will make you richer. Not usually richer in material things, but richer in love, compassion, and thankfulness. Giving is a balm to the soul. Make giving a priority, whether you are dirt poor or Warren Buffet-wealthy.
10. Don’t act like anyone else but you to attract a boy. Or a friend. Or anyone else, for that matter. So don’t settle for someone who doesn’t appreciate you.
11. Never let anyone tell you that you can’t achieve something. You can do anything you set your mind to with enough work and courage.
12. Make taking care of yourself- mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally- a priority. You will thank yourself for this in the future.
13. Take risks. (As your mom, I must add that I’m not speaking of risks of the foolish or illegal sort.) The best things in life often come from those times when you take a risk.
14. Be passionate- passionate about your beliefs, your interests, your studies, your relationships. Complacency is the death of the spirit.
15.Have fun. To the best of your ability and circumstances, have a blast living

1st Gameday 9/8/12
Saturday marked the 1st Aggie football game of the year as well as our 1st SEC game. The Florida Gators came to Aggieland to welcome us into the SEC. And boy, what an atmosphere!

Unfortunately, we lost the game....a very winnable game (20-17). The first 1/2 was super exciting to watch, the second 1/2 was painful to watch. But, the Aggies show improvement from last year, we've shown we can hang with an SEC team, we have a very young and competitive quarterback. New season, new conference, new coach, young team....things are going to get better. We just have to hold on until then!

Getting ready for Kinder!
To start off - the weekend before we went shopping - Jerra picked out new shoes, a new dress and a new lunchbox. We also stopped in to see our neighbor Celeste, who gave Jerra's hair a trim. It was the first time she's ever been to a salon for a haircut!
The day of school Jerra was SO ready! I think she was looking forward to seeing all her friends the most, and was only slightly anxious about starting at a new school.
Geoff and I walked her in. It was a little sureal walking my baby to elementary school!
At her classroom door - Mrs Ewing is her teacher and after her first day she declared: "Mrs Ewing is AWESOME!"

After I picked her up she excitedly told us all about her day, how many things they did and how best of all, she got to chase her friend Mason at recess. (They were in preschool together and have been chasing each other for a while now). Geoff took her to get Spoons yogurt when she got home and she decided it was a great day!

Only Texans...humor
Only Texans will truly understand the humor here...
The year is 2024 and the United States has just elected the first woman as President of the United States.
A few days after the election, the president-elect calls her father in Houston and asks, "So, Dad, I assume you will be coming to my inauguration?"
"I don't think so. It's a long drive; your mom isn't as young as she used to be, we'll have the dog with us, and my arthritis is acting up in my knee."
"Don't worry about it, Dad, I'll send Air Force One or another support aircraft to pick you up and take you home, and a limousine will pick you up at your door," she said.
"I don't know... that's taxpayer money, you know. Everybody will be so fancy. What would your mother wear?"
"Oh, Dad," she replied, I'll pay the tab! I'll make sure she has a wonderful gown custom-made by one of the best designers in New York."
"Honey," Dad complained, "You know we can't eat those rich foods you and your friends like to eat."
The President-elect responded, "Don't worry, Dad. The entire affair is going to be handled by the best caterer in D.C. And I'll ensure your meals are salt-free. Dad, I really want you to come."
So her parents reluctantly agreed, and on January 20, 2024 arrived to see their daughter sworn in as President of the United States.
The parents of the new President are seated in the front row. The President's dad notices a Senator sitting next to him and leans over and whispers, "You see that woman up there with her hand on the Bible, becoming President of the United States ?"
The Senator whispered in reply, "Yes, I do."
The proud Dad says proudly, "Her brother played football at Texas A&M."

Ms Whitney
Ms Whitney was such a huge blessing to us. I am so so thankful, not only for the amazing Christian preschool that my kids go to, but for the most wonderful Godly women that my kids are taught by. I love how my kids are learning about Christ, how they know many bible stories by heart (jerra informed us of the story of Lazarus one day!), they sing songs about God and Jesus and MOST of all - they are prayed over daily. I am sad that Jerra will no longer be going there, but very excited that Bradyn will start in a few weeks and Jorja will be going into her 2nd year there. I am on the school board and get to see the HUGE blessings that pour through this school. Hopefully next year, Jorja will get to have Ms Whitney as her teacher as well!
Dentist
The girls went to the dentist in July as well. Both of them did great, sat for the x-rays with no problems, and came up with a report of healthy teeth!
And a week after her appt, Jerra lost tooth #2! (this one she pulled out herself after weeks of wiggling it!)

Figured I would update our July before we got too much farther into August!
Our summer is flying by and we have 2 more weeks before school starts and everyone is on the countdown! We are ready to get back into a more normal routine.
But this summer has had many good moments:

We spent time at many parks (early morning hours only! way tooooo HOT otherwise)
We visited the Wildlife Ranch in San Antonio (drive through park with a petting area)
We spent LOTS of time swimming, mostly at the grandparents house, but occassionally at the local pool
(jerra and her friend, Morgan)
and popsicles are a fav treat in the heat of the day!
